News text:

Prepared in January 2022 by ECHA, the proposal to restrict per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in firefighting foams was adopted on 2 October 2025 by the European Commission.

This restriction establishes that, from 23 October 2030, fire-fighting foams with a total PFAS concentration exceeding 1 mg/L shall not be placed on the market or used.It should be noted that specific transition periods are defined for each use in order to give the industry time to switch to safer alternatives without compromising fire safety.
