pfasID is a new web application for identifying PFAS
News text:

pfasID is a new web-based tool designed to facilitate the identification of PFAS among chemicals particularly in the supply chain. This identification is based on OECD and USEPA databases and chemical nomenclature definitions.

For each product input, pfasID provides different levels of identification: ‘Pass’ if the substance is not listed in the databases and contains no structural alert; ‘Fail’ if the substance is listed in one of the databases; ‘Warning’ if the structure of the substance indicates a potential PFAS status based on the definitions of ECHA, OECD, Ontochem and/or EPA.

This tool represents the first part of the PFACTS project, which aims to create a clearinghouse for data, tools, and community knowledge in order to:

- simplify the identification of PFAS chemicals and materials;

- speed up the discovery of safer PFAS alternatives with the help of generative AI;

- to recommend methods for capturing PFAS from industrial applications until viable replacements can be found.
